01Her story

Bryanna Baptiste learned the job long before she had the title.

She was the youngest of four sisters, born sixteen years after the oldest, and she grew up in a small town south of Boston as something between an only child and a built-in aunt. By the time she was five she was "big sister" to a whole new generation, and she became the family's unofficial generational translator. She learned to read emotions before anyone said them out loud, to stay steady in complicated situations, and to show up. Some of those lessons came early and hard. She saw her family wrestle with mental illness, and she got a front-row seat to how the child welfare system treats the kids moving through it. Those years still shape who she fights for.

At nineteen, she met a children's nurse who opened her eyes to psychiatric nursing. Three Northeastern degrees, a DNP from Rush, and a board certification later, she was doing the work. And like so many people in healthcare, she was burning out. Anxiety. Moral injury. The quiet ache of a system that asks caregivers to give everything and offers very little back.

So she bet on herself. After a huge breakup, an uprooting of her life to Charlotte, NC, and training in the hospital psychiatry setting, she walked away from safe and built Hive Health, a holistic psychiatric practice that cares for mind, body, and spirit, where a visit means real therapeutic work and not a quick med check. Has it been easy? She'll tell you the bags under her eyes are Chanel, thank you very much. But every hard day has taught her to trust her ideas, lean on her mentors, ask for help, and get back on the horse.

“She'll tell you the bags under her eyes are Chanel, thank you very much.”

Today Bryanna is a clinician, professor, founder, and author in progress, taking on a system that reaches for meds before people, trains clinicians for the test instead of the practice, and values purses and clout over people and community. Her mission is to change how we care for young people, for the ones who care for everyone else, and honestly, how we think about life itself.

Off the clock, you'll find her talking to her houseplants (green thumb pending), learning chess so she can finally beat her six-year-old nephew, pulling a tarot card, or dancing like Beyoncé is watching. Her crew includes her fiancé, Ryan, and three dogs: Luna, Roscoe, and Tonks. Ask anyone who knows her: she's the fun friend, fiercely loyal, down for almost anything once (maybe not twice), and she will always show up for her people.

“Loyal to her people. Hard on the status quo. Always down to dance.”

  1. Holistic and integrative, across the lifespan. I treat children, teens, and adults through midlife with the same model: mind, body, and spirit, not a symptom checklist.

  2. Medication is one tool, not the plan. Sleep, nutrition, movement, relationships, and the systems a person lives inside are all part of the work.

  3. If a child is given the opportunity to do well, they will. My job is to find where the system around them is breaking down and help fix that.

  4. Ask the person what they think the solution is. Their own answer is clinical data.

  5. Care that actually listens: extended appointments, therapeutic work alongside medication management, and direct access between visits.

  6. Healthcare is a living system. You cannot heal the people inside it without tending the system itself.
